Max Homa defeated Tony Finau on the second playoff hole to win the Genesis Invitational on Sunday.
Homa shot a 5-under 66 in the final round at Riviera to get into the playoff and only needed a par on the second extra hole to claim his second PGA Tour title.
"I've been watching this tournament my whole life, (it's) why I fell in love with golf," the Los Angeles native said while fighting back tears. "I had good feelings this week, been playing great.
"City of champions - Dodgers, Lakers, and me now. It's a weird feeling."
It was a roller-coaster finish for the 30-year-old. Needing a birdie on the 72nd hole to win the tournament, Homa stuck his approach to three feet but couldn't claim the victory.
On the first playoff hole - the driveable par-4 10th - Homa's tee shot settled directly beside a tree. However, he hit a miraculous recovery shot to 11 feet and salvaged a par.
Meanwhile, Finau couldn't get anything to drop in the playoff. He missed a 7-footer for a birdie on the first extra hole that would have solidified the win before missing a 9-footer on the second extra hole to stay alive.
Homa earned $1.674 million for his efforts in Los Angeles as well as a three-year exemption due to the Genesis Invitational's elevated status.
