The WGC-Mexico Championship will be relocated to Florida in 2021 due to challenges created by COVID-19, the PGA Tour announced on Friday.

Rumors about the potential move stateside were confirmed when the PGA Tour informed its players that the tournament would be played at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton.

"Due to logistical challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the WGC-Mexico Championship will not be played in Mexico as previously scheduled," the Tour told players, according to Golf.com's Dylan Dethier.

WGC-Mexico was played at Club de Golf Chapultapec the last four years. Patrick Reed is the defending champion.

The Concession Golf Club was co-designed by Jack Nicklaus and Tony Jacklin. It previously hosted the 2015 NCAA Division I National Championships, which Bryson DeChambeau won on the men's side.

The relocated tournament begins Feb. 25 to kick off a four-week Florida swing.
