Brandt Snedeker birdied three of his final five holes on Thursday to card a 5-under 65 and take a two-shot lead after the first round of the Houston Open.

Jason Day is tied for second with Scottie Scheffler, Harold Varner III, Carlos Ortiz, Michael Thompson, and Cameron Davis, who each shot 67.

Dustin Johnson shot 72 in his return to play after a positive COVID-19 test forced him to withdraw from the CJ Cup and kept him out of the Zozo Championship. The former U.S. Open champion bogeyed five of his last seven holes on the front nine.

Brooks Koepka, who's playing for the second time after a two-month injury layoff, Jordan Spieth, and 2019 Houston Open winner Lanto Griffin all carded a 72 as well.

The event is being held at public Memorial Park for the first time since 1963. Ticket sales are limited to 2,000 a day.
