Munoz opens with 64 to snag 1st-round lead at Zozo Championship
Sebastian Munoz jumped out to an early one-shot lead over Justin Thomas and Tyrrell Hatton at the Zozo Championship on Thursday, shooting an 8-under 64 in Round 1 at Sherwood Country Club.
The Colombian bogeyed his first hole but bounced back with three straight birdies and two hole-out eagles en route to the lowest score of Day 1. Munoz placed ninth at last week's CJ Cup and has three top-10 finishes in his previous six PGA Tour starts.
After posting even on the front nine, Thomas finished his day by going eagle-birdie-birdie to sit one off the early pace.
Hatton, who led after 18 holes at last week's event in Las Vegas, continued his recent run of incredible form with a one-bogey 65.
Here's how the leaderboard stands following Day 1:
| Place | Player | To Par | R1 Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sebastian Munoz | -8 | 64 |
| T2 | Tyrrell Hatton | -7 | 65 |
| T2 | Justin Thomas | -7 | 65 |
| T4 | Brian Harman | -6 | 66 |
| T4 | Lanto Griffin | -6 | 66 |
| T4 | Kevin Kisner | -6 | 66 |
| T4 | Harris English | -6 | 66 |
| T4 | Dylan Frittelli | -6 | 66 |
Tiger Woods shot a 76 in Round 1 of his Zozo Championship title defense. It marks his worst career round at Sherwood, where he's won five times in his career.
