Mickelson commits to 1st Champions Tour event
Phil Mickelson committed on Friday to his first Champions Tour event after missing the cut at The Northern Trust.
"I'm going to play the Champions event this Monday," Mickelson wrote on Twitter. "I've been playing well and I want to play. I wish I was playing in Chicago next week but excited to play my first Champions event."
The 50-year-old shot 74-68 at TPC Boston to finish at even for the week. He is projected to fall outside the top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings and will fail to advance to next week's BMW Championship.
Mickelson became Champions Tour eligible in June and hinted that he might play on the senior circuit if his schedule allowed for it.
His first event will be the Charles Schwab Series at Ozarks National in Ridgedale, Missouri.
Ernie Els, Jim Furyk, and Mike Weir are among other 50-year-olds who made their Champions Tour debuts in 2020.
