Royal Montreal lands 2024 Presidents Cup
Get ready, Canada.
The Royal Montreal Golf Club will play host to the 2024 Presidents Cup, organizers announced on Monday.
“The people of Canada are some of the most loyal and passionate sports fans in the world, and given the overwhelming success of the Presidents Cup in 2007, it was a natural next step for the event to return to The Royal Montreal in 2024,” PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said.
The course, located 20 miles west of downtown Montreal, will become the second venue outside of the United States to host multiple Presidents Cups. Royal Melbourne in Australia, which hosted the most recent competition in December of 2019, is the other international site.
Royal Montreal previously held the 2007 edition, where Canadian Mike Weir stunned Tiger Woods on home soil in Sunday's singles matches. However, the United States side went onto win the competition by a score of 19.5 -14.5.
The Presidents Cup is a historically lopsided event, with the Americans holding an 11-1-1 record. However, the Internationals put up a valiant effort in 2019, making the event the most competitive in recent memory. The U.S. eventually won 16-14.
The current Royal Montreal location previously held five Canadian Opens, most recently in 2014, when Tim Clark of South Africa won the title.
Tournament dates for the 2024 Presidents Cup will be announced at a later date.
