Adam Scott played his first competitive round on Thursday since golf returned in June, and he finally had the opportunity to see what the Bryson DeChambeau hype was all about.

The Aussie was paired with the long hitter in Round 1 of the PGA Championship, but he wasn't blown away like some of the other pros on Tour.

"Yeah, he's hitting it long. There's no doubt about it," Scott said afterward. "Not to like put him down any, but I thought it was going to be longer."

Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas were among those who marveled at DeChambeau's transformation into golf's longest hitter.

"There's been so much buildup, me reading the news and listening to him and watching him play, I thought I was going to see like almost one of those long-drive guys," Scott continued.

Despite DeChambeau ranking second in the field in average driving distance after one round at 315.6 yards - with one of his drives going 356 yards - Scott felt he could keep up.

"Look, he hits it really far, but fortunately, I still hit it long enough to not feel like I'm playing a different golf course, completely. Maybe that's just this course, though," Scott added.
