Ian Poulter posted a 7-under 64 in Round 1 of the RBC Heritage to share a one-shot lead with Mark Hubbard.
Poulter took advantage of ideal conditions Thursday morning at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The Englishman carded seven birdies during his bogey-free performance to set the pace early.
Hubbard, who's currently ranked No. 146 in the world, later matched Poulter with five birdies and an eagle in the final group of the morning wave.
Webb Simpson and Viktor Hovland headline the seven-player group sitting one shot off the lead.

Though his name isn't featured at the top of the leaderboard, the story of the day belonged to Jordan Spieth. The 26-year-old rebounded from an early-round triple-bogey, making eight birdies to shoot 5-under 66 and get into contention for the second week in a row. Seven of Spieth's birdies came on the final eight holes.
Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Rickie Fowler, and last week's Charles Schwab Challenge winner Daniel Berger are part of a large group sharing 16th place at 4-under par.
A handful of notables struggled in Round 1 at Harbour Town, including world No. 1 Rory McIlroy (1-over), Justin Thomas (1-over), Xander Schauffele (1-over), and FedEx Cup leader Sungjae Im (2-over).
Second-round action gets underway on Friday at 6:45 a.m. ET.
