Barkley thinks PGA Tour should mic up players when season resumes

NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley saw the benefits of the golfers wearing microphones during "The Match: Charity for Champions" on Sunday, and he's now encouraging the PGA Tour to continue the trend when play resumes without fans in June.

"If I'm the PGA Tour, and this is my piece of advice to them," Barkley said Tuesday on "The Dan Patrick Show." "If we're not going to have fans, they should mic the players. I really believe that ... that's just my two cents for the PGA Tour"

The PGA Tour plans to host the first four events without spectators starting at the Charles Schwab Challenge on June 11.

"You can't just have guys playing golf and announcers talking," he added. "I think if they are going to be successful and have great ratings - No. 1 they are going to have great ratings because we need sports - but I think they should consider having (the players mic'd up)."

CBS lead golf analyst Nick Faldo agrees with Barkley.

Players on the European Tour and Korn Ferry Tour have played while wearing microphones, though the PGA Tour has never offered such access.
