Todd: Tour will 'probably break every CDC recommendation' upon return

Brendon Todd is comfortable with the PGA Tour's plan to restart the season on June 11 at the Charles Schwab Challenge, but he doesn't believe players will adhere to strict social distancing practices.

"We'll be trying to stay six feet away, but you're not going to stay six feet from your caddie at all times,'' Todd said, according to ESPN's Bob Harig. "We would strive to do that as best as we can do. I don't see us wearing masks out there, even though that would probably be a smart precaution but I just can't see teeing it up with a mask on. We'll probably break every CDC recommendation there."

The Tour is expected to force golfers to putt with flagsticks in and play without rakes, though Todd admitted he thinks caddies will still rake bunkers "just for the spirit of competition."

In addition to laying out social distancing guidelines, the PGA Tour will need to finalize a coronavirus testing procedure for every person involved with each tournament before making its return.

"The process that's been explained to me is a do-it-yourself test at home, followed by a test when we get on-site, followed by maybe another test mid-week," he said, according to Golf Channel's Rex Hoggard. "I feel comfortable with that process."

The three-time Tour winner also addressed the most crucial unknown in the restart plan: What happens if someone associated with the PGA Tour tests positive for COVID-19?

Todd said his understanding is that a positive test would require quarantine for that individual but wouldn't necessarily force another shutdown.

He added: "If enough people get it, if we become an outbreak, I would think that would cause us to stop playing as well."
