C.T. Pan withdrew from The Players Championship due to concerns about the coronavirus, he wrote on Twitter.
"I chose to withdraw from The Players Championship because my wife and I want to protect ourselves from the risk of exposure to the coronavirus," Pan wrote.
Pan confirmed he and his family are fine before adding he believes it's best to "exercise caution" because of his lifestyle that includes a lot of travel.
The 28-year-old initially announced he wasn't competing by responding to a tweet about how continuing play at TPC Sawgrass is putting players and their families at risk of contracting the virus.
"We already left hours ago," Pan said. "Not going to play."
He added another tweet, that has since been deleted, indicating the PGA Tour has done very little to increase the safety precautions on the grounds.
"I'm probably the only one who is not playing," Pan said. "Same number as the hand sanitizers in the clubhouse, locker, and dining."
Pan was set to tee off at 2:02 p.m. ET. He will be replaced by Brendan Steele.
