Despite losing to Patrick Reed at the WGC-Mexico Championship, Bryson DeChambeau sought out the winner soon after Sunday's round because he believes the two share a common bond.
"He's a great player. There's been a lot of stuff said in past years, I guess you could say, with him, and even with me, I feel like, unfortunately, sometimes we get quite a bad rap," DeChambeau said when asked why he wanted to congratulate Reed.
He added: "And yeah, there's things that we've done that hasn't been right, but we haven't got really gotten the best rap."
DeChambeau has become the poster child for slow-play issues in golf. Reed has also been involved in a number of controversies, with the most recent one being his rules infraction at Tiger Woods' event in the Bahamas.
The golfers shared the stage Sunday - though they were in different groups for the final round - for the first time since they unofficially became two of the game's biggest antagonists.
"We understand each other's pain sometimes, and so it was a fun battle," said DeChambeau, who came up a shot shy from forcing at playoff against Reed.
DeChambeau actually called out Reed's actions in the Bahamas during a recent Twitch stream.
"Yeah, he cheated. He did it, but he was penalized accordingly," DeChambeau said in January, according to Golf Channel.
