Tiger cards 3-under 69 on moving day at Torrey Pines

Tiger Woods managed to cut into the six-shot deficit he faced after 36 holes by firing a 3-under 69 in Round 3 at the Farmers Insurance Open on Saturday.

Woods, who needed to make the most of moving day to have a chance at winning for the ninth time at Torrey Pines, opened with two birdies in his first three holes. After chipping in for a crucial par save on No. 4, the 44-year-old added two more birdies to his card to make the turn at 4-under.

However, he failed to continue his torrid pace on the South Course's tougher back nine. He three-putted the par-3 11th to drop his first shot of the round and remained at 3-under for the rest of the day. He drained a 15-footer on the 18th to secure his score in the 60s.

"I made a mistake over there on 11 and didn't make any birdies coming home," Woods said after his round. "It was important to make that putt (on 18) and salvage the round a little bit towards the end to get some kind of positive momentum going into tomorrow."

Tiger will enter the final round five shots behind leader Jon Rahm.

"I'm going to have to shoot a pretty good round tomorrow," he said. "I'll have my work cut out for me tomorrow."

The Farmers Insurance Open is Tiger's first start of 2020 and first appearance since going undefeated at the Presidents Cup.
