Americans trail Internationals by 2 ahead of final day at Presidents Cup

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA - DECEMBER 14: Marc Leishman of Australia and the International team and Abraham Ancer of Mexico and the International team celebrate after halving their match against Justin Thomas of the United States team and Rickie Fowler of the United States team during Saturday afternoon foursomes matches on day three of the 2019 Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne Golf Course on December 14, 2019 in Melbourne, Australia.

The Americans had their best session of the Presidents Cup Saturday afternoon, cutting into the Internationals' lead by winning the foursomes session by a score of 3-1. Despite that strong performance, Ernie Els' team will still take a 10-8 edge into Sunday's 12 singles matches.

The marathon day at Royal Melbourne looked to be heading toward an American sweep halfway through the events' fourth session. However, a late run by the Internationals salvaged the day to remain in the lead where they've been since Day 1.

Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler held a 5-up advantage after 10 holes in their match versus Marc Leishman and Abraham Ancer, but were shockingly unable to hang on to their commanding lead. The Internationals won five of the last eight holes to earn a much-needed half point and energize the raucous crowd.

"I think I'm speechless. It's unacceptable for us to get a half (of) a point," Thomas said, according to Golf Channel's Jay Coffin.

Here's how the scoreboard from Session 4 finish:
