Patrick Reed and Gary Woodland got off to great starts at the Hero World Challenge, firing matching 6-under 66s to share a two-shot lead after Wednesday's first round.

The leaders have done well so far in justifying their captain's selections after Tiger Woods added both to Team USA for next week's Presidents Cup.

Chez Reavie, who was added to the field after Dustin Johnson was forced to withdraw, is alone in third at 4-under.

Woods, meanwhile, dug himself out of a hole with three birdies and an eagle over a five-hole stretch on the back nine after taking a while to get it going. But the tournament host crumbled on Nos. 17 and 18 to finish at even par.

Here's how the top of the leaderboard looks for the 18-man field:

Place Player To Par R1 Score
T1 Gary Woodland -6 66
T1 Patrick Reed -6 66
3 Chez Reavie -4 68
T4 Justin Rose -3 69
T4 Justin Thomas -3 69
T4 Rickie Fowler -3 69
T4 Henrik Stenson -3 69

Defending champion Jon Rahm sits eighth at 2-under. The top-ranked player in the field won back-to-back European Tour events prior to teeing it up in the Bahamas.

Several members of the American Presidents Cup team struggled in Round 1. Xander Schauffele (1-over), Webb Simpson (1-over), Patrick Cantlay (2-over), Bryson DeChambeau (4-over), and Tony Finau (7-over) are all well back after 18 holes.
