Phil Mickelson's remarkable run of representing the United States is over.
The 49-year-old failed to earn a selection from captain Tiger Woods on Thursday, ending his streak of playing for Team America in every Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup since 1994.
"What he's accomplished over his entire career, (it's) amazing that he's been that consistent over that length of time," Tiger said, according to Golf Channel's Tiger Tracker. "It's unfortunate it's come this year. (The streak) was going to come to an end at some point."
Mickelson finished 16th in points, with the top eight automatically qualifying for a trip to Australia to compete at Royal Melbourne. He owns a combined 44-38-20 record over 24 career team events. However, he posted an ugly 0-2 record at last year's Ryder Cup in Paris.
In addition to ending his team-event streak, Lefty recently fell outside of the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking for the first time in 26 years.
Woods elected to go with Gary Woodland, Patrick Reed, Tony Finau, and himself with his four captain's picks.
