Tony Romo's dreams of making a PGA Tour cut came to a crashing halt Friday.
Following a stunning 2-under 70 to open his week at the Safeway Open, the 39-year-old amateur carded a 6-over 78 to miss the cut by six in Napa, California.
Things looked promising when Romo made two birdies and two bogeys to play his first five holes at even par. However, a string of four straight bogeys to end his front nine derailed his round. He finished at 4-over for the tournament, his best score in four appearances on the Tour.
He placed in a tie for 129th in the 144-man field.
After making the most of his sponsor's exemption, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback will return to his day job and head to the Windy City to join the CBS broadcast for the Minnesota Vikings-Chicago Bears game Sunday.
