Romo to skip NFL broadcast in unlikely chance he makes Safeway Open cut

Tony Romo will choose golf over work next Sunday in the unlikely chance he makes the cut at the Safeway Open, according to the New York Post's Andrew Marchand.

The CBS broadcaster accepted a sponsor's invitation to participate in the PGA Tour event held in Napa, California, next week as an amateur. He's also scheduled to call the Minnesota Vikings-Chicago Bears game Sunday, Sept. 29 alongside Jim Nantz, which he'd skip to play in the final round of the tournament.

A replacement for Romo is lined up in the off chance Romo plays well enough to make the cut, according to Marchand.

Despite owning a very respectable golf game for an amateur, Romo hasn't found any success in three previous attempts on the PGA Tour. He finished last in the 2018 Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship, beat a single player in the same tournament earlier this year, and missed the cut by 10 shots at the 2019 AT&T Byron Nelson.

Chances are Romo will be in Chicago for the broadcast with plenty of time to spare.
