Patrick Cantlay fired a scorching 8-under 64 on Sunday to erase a four-shot deficit and win the Memorial Tournament.
The 27-year-old turned in a bogey-free, eight-birdie performance in Round 4 at Muirfield Village to track down 54-hole leader Martin Kaymer. He set the record for the lowest final-round score by a winner at the Memorial to finish the tournament at 19-under.
Cantlay was chasing for most of the day, but after recording six red numbers to grab a share of the top spot, he made a crucial birdie putt on No. 12 as Kaymer bogeyed to grab sole possession of the lead. From there, he never looked back.
His two-shot victory over runner-up Adam Scott marks the second win of his career. He also claimed the Shriners Open in November 2017.
Scott made things interesting late with a run of three straight birdies. He wound up shooting 4-under 68 and finished alone in second.
Kaymer, who led after Rounds 2 and 3, carded an even-par 72 to finish third. He bogeyed three of his final seven holes to fall off the pace.
Kevin Streelman (-13) and Marc Leishman (-12) round out the top five. Hideki Matsuyama finished in sixth at 11-under and Jordan Spieth shot 1-over on Sunday to drop into a tie for seventh.
Tiger Woods put on a ball-striking clinic earlier in the day. He climbed up 16 spots with a 5-under 67 to finish in a tie for ninth at 9-under for the week.
