Former world No. 1 Martin Kaymer joins Troy Merritt and Kyoung-Hoon Lee for a three-way tie atop the leaderboard at the Memorial Tournament after Friday's second round.
Kaymer followed his 67 from Thursday with a 4-under 68 in Round 2. He bogeyed his final hole to give up sole possession of the lead.
Merritt shot 6-under 66 with Lee coming in one worse to sit at 9-under par after 36 holes.
Jordan Spieth stands alone in fourth at 8-under. His putter wasn't nearly as hot as it was in Round 1, but his 2-under 70 performance puts him in a great position for the third straight week.
Five players sit two shots back of the leaders, including Rickie Fowler, Adam Scott, and Patrick Cantlay.
Justin Rose turned in the round of the day. He fired a 9-under 62, including an eagle-birdie-eagle stretch that saw him vault up the leaderboard. His playing partner, Tiger Woods, carded a 72 to sneak inside the cut by two shots, a performance he called a "mixed bag."
There's a laundry list of players who failed to make the cut at the Memorial. Rory McIlroy, Matt Kuchar, Jason Day, Justin Thomas, and Phil Mickelson are all world-class golfers who are heading home early.
