Garrigus suspended 3 months for violating PGA Tour's anti-doping rules
The PGA Tour has suspended Robert Garrigus three months for violating its anti-doping policy.
His suspension follows a positive test for a substance identified as a "drug of abuse," according to Golf Channel's Will Gray.
Garrigus, 41, released a statement regarding his suspension, apologizing to his family, sponsors, fellow competitors, and the PGA Tour for his actions.
"After a long period of sobriety, I had a relapse and subsequently failed a drug test for marijuana," his statement read. "A drug that, although legal in many states, is not permitted under the PGA Tour's anti-doping rules.
"I mention that it is legal in many states not as an excuse, but as a word of warning to many people who use or try marijuana," Garrigus added. "Legal doesn't mean it isn't addictive and legal doesn't mean there aren't potentially severe consequences if you use it."
The former Tour winner hasn't played since late February at the Puerto Rico Open.
