Koepka feels 'out of sorts' after dropping 22 pounds

Three-time major champion Brooks Koepka completed his Players Championship well outside the top 50 after failing to break 70 in all four rounds, finishing at 2-under par for the tournament.

Throughout the event, Koepka lost strokes off the tee and with his approach shots, which are typical areas of strength for the world-class ball-striker.

His reasoning for the lackluster showing? Weight loss.

"When you go from 212 pounds to 190, there’s not as much weight going forward through the ball,” Koepka said, according to Golf Channel's Ryan Lavner. “I don’t have as much feel. I just feel out of sorts.”

Koepka said he's been training twice a day and eating healthier for the last four months, but didn't reveal the reason for the regimen, which apparently will end this coming week. He added that after Wednesday, "I'll be fine."

“I just want to be able to eat again,” Koepka said. “I’m going to put (the weight) back on. I just want to eat normal and not train as hard. Everything has been double the intensity, double the time.”

The 28-year-old says the physical sacrifice impacting his on-course results has been worth it, adding it's "only four months of my career."

He will have a week off before participating in WGC-Dell Match Play Championship in Texas, which begins March 27.
