Pieters claims 'Americans can't drink' during reflection of 2016 Ryder Cup

Thomas Pieters did not hold back during a recent recap of his experience at the 2016 Ryder Cup with Bunkered Magazine, taking shots at the rowdy American crowd and criticizing the course setup at Hazeltine.

"For me, it wasn't bad because they didn't know who I was," the 26-year-old Belgian said. "They didn't have any dirt on me or anything like that. But for Rory, yeah, it was pretty hostile."

Pieters, who played alongside Rory McIlroy during the team portion of the event, heard first-hand what the U.S. supporters said to his Northern-Irish teammate.

"They shouted stuff at him that you shouldn't shout at anybody anywhere. Maybe that's because they sell beer at 7:00 a.m and Americans can't drink."

Shots fired.

Pieters was not selected for the 2018 Ryder Cup despite playing solid lately and posting a 4-1-0 record in his rookie debut at Hazeltine, a course he also ripped on during his reflection.

"The setup of the course was ridiculous, you could hit it anywhere," Pieters added while recalling how Phil Mickelson played the course. "He was sometimes hitting it like six fairways left or right but was still able to get it on the green and then make a 40-footer. I didn't think it was a great Ryder Cup setup, to be honest."

With comments like this and his club-snapping antics as of late, the American crowd should have plenty of dirt on the Belgian if he makes the European Ryder Cup team headed to Whistling Straits in 2020.
