Saturday is known as moving day at the major championships, but that didn't stop a number of players from rising - or falling - on the leaderboard at the Masters.
The conditions at Augusta National were very difficult early, which left a number of players in the morning wave looking for answers as their place in the field plunged. With easier scoring opportunities available to the afternoon groupings, players like Patrick Reed and Marc Leishman were able to make a run and sit 1-2 heading to the weekend.
Here are four notable players that rose up the board, and four names that plummeted during a wild second round at Augusta:
Movin' on up
Patrick Reed
Round 2 score: 66 (-6)
Move: 4th to 1st
Reed wasted no time in putting his stamp on the proceedings, birdieing six holes on the front nine on his way to a 6-under-par 66, the lowest round of the day. The fiery American has never finished better than 22nd at the Masters, but sits poised to claim his first career major with a two-shot lead after 36 holes.
Marc Leishman
Round 2 score: 67
Move: 11th to 2nd
Playing alongside Tiger Woods, Leishman had a solid round going on Friday, but it was a brilliant shot on the 15th hole that turned it into something special. Standing directly behind a group of trees with 223 yards to the pin over a pond, Leishman roped a slinging hook around the obstacles that landed on the green and rolled to 6 feet. He would convert the eagle on his way to a 5-under 67.
Justin Thomas
Round 2 score: 67
Move: 42nd to 6th
It seems impossible that a player of Justin Thomas' ability could quietly creep up a leaderboard, but that's exactly what the 24-year-old did on Friday. The reigning Player of the Year chipped in twice and rattled off three straight birdies on the back nine to post a 5-under 67 and move 36 places up the leaderboard to sixth.
Dustin Johnson
Round 2 score: 68
Move: 29th to 6th
After finishing his first 10 holes on Thursday at 3-over-par, the world's top-ranked player has been on a mission, posting six birdies and an eagle in the last 26 holes. Johnson wasted no time in announcing his intentions on Friday, scoring an eagle three on the par-5 second hole. A birdie on the 18th gave him a 4-under 68 for Round 2, tied for lowest score of the day. That leaves Johnson within striking distance this weekend, sitting five shots off the pace.
Dropping fast
Jordan Spieth
Round 2 score: 74
Move: 1st to 4th
After struggling to a 4-over 40 on the opening nine Friday, it looked as though the wheels were falling off for Spieth. Luckily, the 2015 champion found his footing and shot 34 on the back nine to salvage a 2-over-par 74. Considering Spieth entered the day having led following nine of his 17 career rounds at Augusta, the poor performance was shocking, but he's still within striking range in fourth spot.
Rafa Cabrera-Bello
Round 2 score: 76
Move: 4th to 23rd
Cabrera-Bello was in great shape walking off the 10th green on Friday sitting at 4-under-par for the tournament, but a disastrous closing stretch has him well back heading to the weekend. The Spaniard went 5-over for his final eight holes, including a double-bogey on 11, and fell all the way from fourth to 23rd ahead of Round 3.
Haotong Li
Round 2 score: 76
Move: 4th to 23rd
Li was somewhat of a surprise name near the top of the leaderboard in Round 1, but the Chinese standout suffered the same fate as Cabrera-Bello with a 76 in Round 2. Things looked ominous for the 22-year-old after a 6-over 42 on the front nine, but he was able to roll in three birdies on the back side to limit the damage heading to the weekend.
Phil Mickelson
Round 2 score: 79
Move: 11th to 46th
How bad was Phil Mickelson's performance in Round 2? The 47-year-old matched his career-worst round in 26 starts at the Masters with a 7-over-par 76. The three-time champion began the day just four shots back of the lead and actually birdied the second hole of the day. It was downhill from there however, as a triple-bogey on the ninth and a double-bogey on the 12th derailed any hopes of a solid score. Bogeys on two of his last three holes saw him finish with 79 and make the cut on the number at 5-over-par.
