Tiger Woods carded an even-par 70 in Round 1 of the PGA Championship on Thursday, an outing that looked destined for disaster until an unlikely catalyst turned it around.
Woods opened bogey-double bogey after failing to find the fairway on the first two holes of Bellerive Country Club. Drenched in sweat from the St. Louis heat, he opted for a fresh shirt.

He birdied No. 12, his first hole in the new attire, to get back to 2-over par. After making another bogey on No. 16, Woods carded two consecutive birdies to sit at 1-over through 10.
Despite not having his best stuff, the 42-year-old salvaged his round on the back nine, birdieing the par-5 eighth to get back to even par for the tournament.
Woods sits five shots back of early clubhouse leader Rickie Fowler.
