Spieth opens Travelers Championship with 7-under 63
Jordan Spieth put it all together Thursday at the Travelers Championship, carding a 7-under-par 63 to grab the first-round lead.
Spieth came out of the blocks fast on the TPC River Highlands course, holing a 14-foot putt for birdie at the par-4 first, before spinning his wedge shot back to within two feet on the next hole, leading to another birdie.
The Texan would make three more birdies on the front, and then made his lone bogey of the day at the par-4 ninth, after his approach found the green-side bunker.
The world No. 6 made birdie at the par-5 13th, and would grab a share of the lead on the next hole, draining a 19-foot putt for birdie. Spieth then closed his round by stuffing his approach shot at the home hole, before brushing in the putt to become the solo leader.
