On a windy Friday, it was the Texas wedge that helped Bud Cauley post a bogey-free 66 in the second round at TPC San Antonio.

"Yeah, I played really well, probably even hit it a little better than yesterday," Cauley told PGATour.com of his performance at the Valero Texas Open. "I just didn't quite convert on some of the putts, and today I putted really well."

Cauley made six birdies on the day, thanks to making over 133 feet of putts in his round and a short game that got up and down on all eight occasions.

"It was windy out there, so it was hard," he said. "I knew I was going to miss some greens, and was able to hit some good chips. I knew when I didn't get it close as I would like, I rolled a few in."

Heavy rain hammered the course early in the week, making the greens more receptive, but the 27-year-old believes things are going to get more demanding.

"I'm sure it'll dry out and play tougher for these guys," Cauley said.
