Phil Mickelson had the first round of 62 in major championship history taken away from him Thursday at the 145th Open Championship when a birdie try on 18 took a sudden, heartbreaking swerve when it appeared destined for the center of the cup.
"Lefty" had to settle for a share of the major championship scoring record of 63, which he shares with 25 others.
He does, however, hold a three-shot lead over the field in pursuit of his sixth major title.
