Report: Clark held off veteran-heavy Team USA roster

Indiana Fever rookie point guard Caitlin Clark is expected to be held off the United States women's basketball roster for the upcoming Paris Olympics, sources told Shams Charania, Joe Vardon, Mark Puleo, Ben Pickman, and Chantel Jennings of The Athletic.

The roster seems to favor veterans with Olympic experience. The 12-player national team will include Napheesa Collier, Kahleah Copper, Brittney Griner, Sabrina Ionescu, Jewell Loyd, Kelsey Plum, Breanna Stewart, Diana Taurasi, Alyssa Thomas, Chelsea Gray, A'ja Wilson, and Jackie Young, according to The Athletic.

Only Copper, Ionescu, and Thomas would be first-time Olympians.

Team USA is the reigning champion at the Olympics dating back to 1996, winning seven consecutive gold medals.

In March, Clark was among 14 players invited to participate in Team USA training camp. However, the 22-year-old was unable to attend while competing in the Final Four for Iowa at the time. Clark is expected to be named an Olympic alternate.

Clark is coming off a strong performance against the Washington Mystics on Friday, draining seven threes and matching a career high with 30 points. Entering action, the WNBA's first overall pick was averaging 15.6 points while shooting 29.7% from deep.
