Veteran forward Derek Roy will not be part of the Washington Capitals moving forward.
The club announced its final roster cuts heading into the regular season Monday, with Roy headlining the group.
The 32-year-old signed a professional tryout contract with the club last month, and even after some early optimism by general manager Brian MacLellan, Roy was released.
Along with Roy, the team released forwards Chandler Stephenson and Liam O'Brien and defensemen Aaron Ness and Ryan Stanton from the training camp roster.
Ness and Stanton will require waivers before being assigned to the club's American Hockey League affiliate, the Hersey Bears.
Roy has 189 goals and 524 points in 738 career games.
