Panthers trade Hayes to Bruins for Smith, Savard's contract
Perry Nelson / USA Today
The Florida Panthers are sending Jimmy Hayes to the Boston Bruins for Reilly Smith and Marc Savard's contract.
The trade was first reported by ESPN's Pierre LeBrun.
Smith played two seasons in Boston after arriving as part of the trade return for Tyler Seguin, recording 91 points in 163 games. He has two seasons remaining on a contract with a cap hit of $3.425 million.
Hayes recorded 19 goals and 35 points in his first full season with the Panthers. The 25-year-old restricted free agent made $925,000 in 2014-15.
The inclusion of Savard's contract will give the Bruins enough cap space to sign free agent Matt Beleskey to a reported five-year deal.
