An attractive free agent option may not even hit the open market.

Matt Beleskey and the Anaheim Ducks are making progress in the negotiating process, and it's expected that the forward will re-sign with the club prior to July 1, according to Craig Custance of ESPN.

The 28-year-old is coming off a breakout season wherein he scored a career-high 22 goals in 65 games, adding another eight in 16 playoff contests. While he achieved the regular season success on an inflated shooting percentage of 15.2, he did post a 54 Corsi For rating at even strength.

Beleskey is set to become an unrestricted free agent, and is likely to make much more than the $1.35 million average salary from the last two seasons, whether he remains in Anaheim or lands elsewhere.
