Bay Area ties for 3rd-most pro championships since 2000
David Richard-USA TODAY Sports
It didn't take long for the San Francisco/Oakland sporting community to catch up with Chicago after the Blackhawks won their third Stanley Cup in six years on Monday.
With the Golden State Warriors winning the NBA championship on Tuesday, the Bay Area tied Chicago, San Antonio, and Miami with four "big four" sports titles since the year 2000.
That's still only good for third place, and far behind runaway success cradles like Boston and Southern California.
| Titles since 2000 | NFL | NBA | MLB | NHL | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Boston | 4 | 1 | 3 | 1 | 9 |
| Los Angeles/Anaheim | 0 | 5 | 1 | 3 | 9 |
| New York/New Jersey | 2 | 0 | 2 | 2 | 6 |
| Chicago | 0 | 0 | 1 | 3 | 4 |
| San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose | 0 | 1 | 3 | 0 | 4 |
| San Antonio | 0 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 4 |
| Miami | 0 | 3 | 1 | 0 | 4 |
That's the sort of list that should make fans in cities like Cleveland and Toronto cringe.
