Penguins' Dupuis cleared to play following career-threatening blood clots

Pascal Dupuis won't be held back from doing what he loves.

The Pittsburgh Penguins forward, sidelined since November with a blood clot in his lung, has received medical clearance to resume his hockey career next season.

"The blood clot has dissolved, and the doctors have recommended a blood thinner medication that will allow him to play," general manager Jim Rutherford said. "It’s a big step forward for Pascal, and we’re all excited for him."

The veteran took to Twitter to offer a somewhat veiled confirmation of the news to his fans.

Dupuis, 36, has appeared in 853 NHL games, scoring 188 goals and adding 217 assists. He was also a big part of the Penguins' Stanley Cup victory in 2009, a level of success he's no doubt hoping to achieve once again.
