Did the NHL miss a potentially season-altering goal?

That's what is reportedly being double checked - according to Darren Dreger of TSN - after it was suggested that a Marc Methot shot went through the Toronto Maple Leafs net in overtime Sunday, thereby earning the Ottawa Senators a crucial extra point in their late push for a playoff spot.

In the hours after the game ended in a shootut victory for Toronto, video evidence emerged suggesting the puck did beat Jonathan Bernier and slip through the netting.

Then again, maybe not.

The verdict?

Either way, the call could not be reversed once play had resumed, so acknowledging a missed goal would have been incredibly small consolation for the Senators and their fans at this point.
