The New York Rangers used a quick pair of second-period goals to pull ahead of the Los Angeles Kings in their Stanley Cup final rematch Thursday.

Trailing 2-1 after 20 minutes, the Rangers tied the game when a snap shot from the point by Kevin Klein fooled Kings netminder Jonathan Quick through heavy traffic. Lee Stempniak gave New York its first lead of the contest 19 seconds later with a wrist shot after a strong individual move into the slot.

The offensive outburst forced Los Angeles coach Darryl Sutter to use his timeout.

Martin St. Louis added a power-play goal 5:27 after Stempniak scored, giving the Rangers a two-goal advantage heading into the third period. The Kings pulled within one late in the third period but New York netminder Cam Talbot shut the door the rest of the way.
