Jarome Iginla named alternate captain in Colorado
The Colorado Avalanche named veteran forward Jarome Iginla alternate captain Wednesday, according to Mike Chambers of the Denver Post.
Iginla joins captain Gabe Landeskog and second alternate Cody McLeod among the team's leadership ranks and the announcement comes 11 years after he was named captain of the Calgary Flames.
Colorado is a hot pick to underachieve after an upstart 2013-14 under first-year head coach Patrick Roy, and Iginla will bring 560 goals in 1,310 games to the table with his new club, but also a strong desire to raise the Stanley Cup prior to calling it a career.
The "A" on his jersey should serve as a reminder to his young teammates that they can't rest on their laurels, because even the greats aren't guaranteed the highest measure of success.
