Detroit Red Wings forward Tomas Tatar is close to signing a contract extension with the team, telling Pluska.sk the new deal will like carry a two or three year term.

Tatar said his agent and the club have been speaking "for some time," admitting the process is "not easy" as "it's a business and both sides want to have the best conditions."

He did, however, reveal he's mulling three options: "The club offers me two-, three-and five-year contract." Tatar said he's leaning towards the shorter deals, but is in no rush to make a decision as Detroit is the only team he can negotiate with after accepting a qualifying offer on June 30.

The 23-year-old appeared in 73 games for the Red Wings last season, scoring 19 goals and adding 20 assists and 158 shots on goal.
