Report: Maple Leafs have 'considerable interest' in Senators' Michalek
There are a lot of obvious holes on the Toronto Maple Leafs roster, but top-six winger isn't one of them. So it's perhaps a surprise that the club reportedly has "considerable interest" in acquiring the services of pending unrestricted free agent, Czech Olympian, and Ottawa Senators forward Milan Michalek.
From TSN's Darren Dreger, during a segment of Insider Trading on Thursday:
Keep an eye on the Toronto Maple Leafs - they're one of several teams that have made contact with Milan Michalek. Now Michalek is a pending UFA, Toronto has considerable interest.
If they were able to sign him they'd have to move a body out of their top six, and Joffrey Lupul would be that trade target.
It could make sense to swap out a comparable player for Lupul, if the return in a Lupul trade is considerable. Otherwise this would seem to be an exercise in rearranging deck chairs.
