Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin, the NHL's leading scorer for two seasons running, left Sunday's round robin World Championship game between Russia and Germany in the third period after colliding with German forward Marcus Kink.
According to Team Russia head coach Oleg Znarok per Canadian Press reporter Steve Whyno, Ovechkin was taken to hospital for an MRI and further evaluation following the hit. Meanwhile Sports-express.ru reporter Slava Malamud, who initially reported that Quick had left the arena in an ambulance, quotes a source saying that, while Ovechkin's evaluation is still pending, "It's pretty bad."
The Capitals have issued a statement stating that they're aware of the situation and are working with Team Russia officials to gather additional information.
