Ilya Kovalchuk retired from the NHL just three years after signing a 15-year, $100,000,000 contract. He left the New Jersey Devils to play in the KHL to be closer to home. Really bad timing.
Home is where the heart is, but Kovalchuk is a huge fan of the Brooklyn Nets (apparently) and was in Brooklyn to support the Nets in the second round of the NBA playoffs against the Miami Heat.
He was in Miami on May 6, and Monday night sitting courtside in Brooklyn.
