Neither team brought their A-game on the power play as both teams allowed a short-handed goal.
The Penguins received a major boost from forward Brian Gibbons, despite the fact he only played 2:26 minutes in the first period before exiting the game with an undisclosed injury.
All but one of the six goals scored in regulation came on the power play or penalty kill. The Blue Jackets threw 10 shots at Marc-Andre Fleury in the third period before tying the game.
