Monahan becomes first Flames rookie forward since Iginla to score 20 goals

Calgary Flames rookie Sean Monahan snapped an 11-game goal-scoring drought in the second period of Sunday's game against the Ottawa Senators to reach 20 goals in his inaugural NHL campaign.

Monahan took a pass from Jiri Hudler along the right side boards and skated towards the net unopposed before roofing a quick wrist shot over Robin Lehner's left shoulder to give Calgary a 3-2 lead.

The 20-goal milestone puts the 19-year-old in good company:

The only other Calgary rookie to record 20 goals in that span was defenseman Dion Phaneuf in 2005-06.

Monahan's rookie campaign has been filled with highs and lows, beginning with nine points in his first eight NHL games before cooling considerably. He was held to two points in December (nine games) and followed that with five points in 14 January games.

Monahan scored at 7:05 of the second - 3:06 after Paul Byron scored to tie the contest - on Calgary's 15th shot of the period.
