Islanders retain 50% of Regin and Bouchard's respective salaries in trade with Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks acquired quality (albeit fragile) two-way forward Peter Regin and undersized scoring center Pierre-Marc Bouchard from the New York Islanders on Thursday night. The price the Blackhawks paid to acquire additional depth, just a fourth round pick, was meagre.

Not only were Bouchard and Regin affordable in terms of their price on the trade market, they'll also represent a discount for the Blackhawks in terms of their real world price tag. According to Pierre LeBrun, the Islanders have agreed to retain 50 percent of both Regin and Bouchard's salary and cap-hit in the deal:

Bouchard is on a one year deal worth $2 million, while Regin is on a one-year deal worth $750,000. So the Islanders will retain $1.325 million in salary in the transaction.

Meanwhile the Blackhawks have assigned Bouchard and center Brandon Pirri to the Rockford IceHogs while Regin will join the team and could make his debut on Friday night in Glendale.
