Alex Ovechkin becomes sixth fastest player to score 400 goals
Alex Ovechkin scored his 400th career goal on Friday, and became the sixth-fastest player to reach that milestone in NHL history.
| Player | Games to 400 |
|---|---|
| Wayne Gretzky | 436 |
| Mike Bossy | 506 |
| Mario Lemieux | 508 |
| Brett Hull | 520 |
| Jari Kurri | 608 |
| Alex Ovechkin | 634 |
The feat is even more notable due to his age and the era in which he plays.
Despite not entering NHL until age 20, Ovechkin is also the seventh youngest player to score 400. In this era, that's incredibly difficult.

"I didn't feel like I would be in this position when I started playing in the NHL," Ovechkin told NHL.com. "Of course I wanted to be, but thanks goes to my coaches and [teammates]. Without them, I can't reach those numbers."
Overall, Ovechkin is the 89th player in NHL history to reach that mark, and one of only seven active players with 400 or more goals.
