New York Rangers netminder Igor Shesterkin was helped off the ice during the second period of Friday's clash against the Washington Capitals after an apparent leg injury.

Shesterkin went down amid a net-front scramble after seemingly jamming his right leg against the post while sliding back into his crease. Teammates helped him to the bench.

Rangers head coach Mike Sullivan didn't have an update on Shesterkin after the game, which the Capitals won 3-1.

Captain J.T. Miller admitted the team is concerned for their netminder.

"It's awful," Miller said, according to The New York Post's Mollie Walker. "He's a pillar of this team. It stinks. Obviously, it's young. We don't even know what's going on, but to see him leave the game is a shock to all of us. At the same time, it means we got to step up to a man to try to get the job done."

Shesterkin entered the contest with a 3-1-0 record and .926 save percentage in four appearances so far this season. He's also logged a goal and an assist.

The 30-year-old is the NHL's highest-paid goaltender at a cap hit of $11.5 million. Shesterkin owns a lifetime .917 save percentage, and has been top-10 in Vezina Trophy voting in four of his eight NHL campaigns. He won the award in 2022.

Dylan Garand entered the game in relief. The rookie assumed backup duties to start the year after Joonas Korpisalo was injured. Garand registered a 22-save shutout in his only appearance of the season thus far.
