San Jose Sharks captain Macklin Celebrini is day-to-day with a lower-body injury after he was a surprise scratch for Monday's game against the Dallas Stars, head coach Ryan Warsofsky said Tuesday, per San Jose Hockey Now's Sheng Peng.

Celebrini warmed up but was unable to dress for the contest. Warsofsky said the injury had occurred sometime earlier and the 20-year-old is still being evaluated.

It's unclear if Celebrini's injury will cause him to miss additional games. The Sharks play the Blues in St. Louis on Thursday before returning home to host the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday.

Celebrini appeared in all 82 Sharks games last season, exploding for 115 points and finishing fourth in Hart Trophy voting. San Jose signed the phenom to a five-year, $94-million extension in July and then named him captain in September.

The Sharks are 2-1-0, and Celebrini leads the club with five points.
