The Vegas Golden Knights eliminated the Utah Mammoth from the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a 5-1 victory in Game 6 on Friday.
Vegas advances to take on the Anaheim Ducks in Round 2. It will be the first-ever playoff series between the two Pacific Division clubs.
Golden Knights forward Mitch Marner came up clutch in Friday's victory, delivering a pair of goals and an assist. The star winger had notoriously struggled late in series during his tenure with the Toronto Maple Leafs, delivering one goal in Games 5-7 across nine playoff runs with his hometown club, according to Sportsnet Stats.
Brett Howden, Colton Sissons, and Cole Smith also scored for the Golden Knights, who are now 11-2-1 between the regular season and playoffs since John Tortorella took over for Bruce Cassidy as head coach.
Kailer Yamamoto scored for Utah in the third period to make it 2-1, but Vegas dominated afterward. The Mammoth qualified for the playoffs for the first time in franchise history this season.
The Golden Knights have now won at least one series in six of their nine seasons since entering the league.
