Ottawa Senators head coach Travis Green announced Monday that star defenseman Jake Sanderson is week-to-week with an upper-body injury, according to The Athletic's Julian McKenzie.

Sanderson was hurt after taking a hit in Saturday's tilt against the Seattle Kraken.

Sanderson's absence is a significant blow to the Senators, who sit five points back of a wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference with 20 games remaining.

The 23-year-old rearguard has notched 48 points in 62 games this season while averaging 24:29 per contest and quarterbacking Ottawa's top power-play unit. He won an Olympic gold medal with the United States in February and finished in the top 10 in Norris Trophy voting last season.
