Sharks sign Sherwood to 5-year extension with $5.75M AAV
The San Jose Sharks signed Kiefer Sherwood to a five-year contract extension with an annual average value of $5.75 million, the team announced Wednesday.
The new deal for Sherwood, who was scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent this summer, is a significant raise from his current $1.5-million cap hit. The Sharks acquired him from the Vancouver Canucks in January for a pair of second-round picks.
Sherwood has only played five games for San Jose, notching one goal and one assist. He scored 18 goals in 49 games for the Canucks this season.
The 30-year-old is one of the most physical players in the NHL. He led the league with 462 hits last season and has logged 238 so far this year.
The Sharks were projected to have approximately $54 million in cap space next season before factoring in Sherwood's extension, according to PuckPedia. San Jose only has 12 players signed for the 2026-27 campaign, and superstar Macklin Celebrini is eligible for an extension as of July 1.
